Where does the Alexander Technique come from?

F.M. Alexander was an Australian who was born in 1869.

As a young actor he often became hoarse during his performances. Doctors could offer no explanation to this condition and Alexander set out to discover what the causes were himself.

By patient self observation he developed a new approach which cured the hoarseness, brought him much improved health and became the basis of the Alexander Technique.

Alexander moved to England in 1904 and continued teaching his technique until his death in 1955.
